The Bookship

K-Gr 3–A fantastical adventure into the land of stories that is accessible all readers. Alia (tannish skin, blue hair) has a grandfather (pink skin, white hair) who has a story for every mood. His stories transport, comfort, and entertain her. One day, without explanation, Grandad is no longer there. Alia’s world is dark until she receives a message in a bottle from her grandfather instructing her to look for the Bookship that will come at the full moon. Alia hails the ship and goes on a journey that fills her with stories; these she in turn passes on to others just as her grandfather did for her. The illustrations magically capture the mood of the story. The lines and colors have an ethereal chalky appearance that carry the stories from the grandfather to Bookship to Alia with an ethereal quality that will have readers looking for the stories everywhere.
