Gr 4-6-This biography provides information for reports and discusses the historical contributions of a well-known figure. Readers will learn that Juan Seguín was a leader in the government and military, and that he was involved in many dangerous and brave missions including defending the Alamo against Santa Ana’s forces. For a time, he was not welcome in Texas or Mexico and was branded a traitor. He was put in prison; to acquire his release, he made a deal with General Woll to fight against Texas to acquire land. After many years, he was able to return to Texas and wrote a personal memoir to help people understand why he fought on the side of Mexico. Full-page black-and-white illustrations appear throughout. Interest in this book would be mainly from Texas schools and libraries.–Nancy Baumann, University of Missouri-Columbia, MO
