Laurie Keller visited our school a couple years back when the first book was coming out, driving demand for this book sky high. But the series has sustained that popularity as sequels have been released.

7. Mermaid Tales

This is a fairly recent addition to our school library and it’s been a complete hit for the “do you have any books about mermaids?” crowd.

6. Bad Kitty

This series is like the tortoise of this list – slow and steady wins the race. Always checked out.

5. Captain Underpants

A classic. New books in the series and full-color updates have kept interest high.

4. Dork Diaries

This series keeps on rolling, gaining new fans every year.

3. Owl Diaries

Do you know about this series yet? It’s great for the 1st-2nd grade crowd, and has been building steam in our school library.

2. Diary of a Wimpy Kid

While you can usually find the first couple books in this series on the shelf, the most recent few are checked out and on hold nonstop. Keep ’em coming, Kinney.

Ho ho! MPO still doing her thing after all these years. Kids like this series, and teachers like recommending it – a perfect storm of sustained popularity.
