I only recently discovered Gen i Revolution, the web-based personal finance game that challenges 7th through 12th grades students with a series of missions covering such concepts as: building capital, investing in human capital, budgeting, credit, risk and return, stocks, bonds, mutual funds, researching companies, financial planning and more.  In my experience, these critical skills, were seldom covered by most middle and high school programs.

Developed by the Council for Economic Education (CEE), the suite of games is supported by the state and national standards-aligned online book Learning, Earning and Investing,  which offers lessons, complete with visuals and activities and a glossary of financial terms, also available as a downloadable Companion Guide and an Integration Guide.

The CEE just announced that it is challenging students to design the next mission.  Teams of up to five students, sponsored by a teacher (or a teacher librarian) may submit a written application and 60-second video.  Submissions will be accepted until April 1.

There will be two sets of prizes–the Viewers’ Choice Prize for the video, to be decided by Facebook voting, and the CEE Choice, for the overall application.  The CEE Choice winner will have its mission developed and added as the 16th Gen i Revolution game.
