School Library Journal a Finalist in 2015 REVERE Awards

SLJ has earned finalist honors in two REVERE Awards categories: single issue editorial and best overall publication.
School Library Journal (SLJ) has been selected as a finalist for the 2015 REVERE Awards in two categories: single issue editorial and best overall publication. Sponsored by the Association of American Publishers (AAP) PreK-12 Learning Group, the annual Awards recognize creative resources that engage 21st-century teachers and learners. DiversitySection_RA_comboSLJ's Diversity Issue was honored in the "Single Issue Editorial" category in the REVERE Awards for Magazines, The May 2014 dedicated issue feature well included “Still in an All-White World?” by K.T. Horning and offered practical tips to implement diversity in the curriculum from teacher-librarian Crystal Brunelle in “The Power of One.” Lauren Barack’s “LGBTQ and You” explored the supportive role of libraries and librarians for LGBTQ youth, and Karen Springen's report on girl-friendly tech initiatives that are are challenging a typically boy-only culture in “SisOps.” REVERE Awards finalists were chosen based on quality content and design, audience engagement and appropriateness, usability and originality and effectiveness, along with comments and recommendations by judges. More than 100 evaluators in the education and publishing industries judged the applications. Winners will be announced at the awards gala in Washington, DC, on June 3, where Ellen Oh, author of the "Prophecy" series (HarperCollins) and co-founder of We Need Diverse Books, will be a speaker.
