At Scholastic Library Publishing, it is our mission to publish engaging series nonfiction for all ages, including early childhood. We pick topics that are curriculum aligned and present them in the most fun way possible. We want to keep our readers engaged, and we want our books to contribute to our readers’ ability to LOVE learning as they move into higher grades.

In the early childhood age bracket, we have two super exciting long-standing series to offer to our librarian partners. The first one is Learn About. With the tagline “Read. Look. Discover.” this series is meant to help kids transition from “Learning to Read” to “Reading to Learn”, while they look at beautiful photos and illustrations and discover the world! With easy-to-digest text and rich backmatter, these books contain all the text features we want kids to learn about at this age: table of contents, glossary, index, and captions among many others. We have published 3 subsets in this series, each one tackling, in an intelligent and fun way, a curriculum topic.

Lean About Water is a beautiful set of four books covering what water is, the water cycle, protecting earth’s water, and how to save water. These books are timely: it has never been more important for young kids to learn about this life-giving resource. Interesting backmatter featuring kid activists (called “Water Warriors”) completes the nonfiction volumes. Learn About Mapping is a perfect first introduction to maps and map skills for young readers. Starting from their house, and moving to their town, country and finally, planet, the four books in this series give children a whole new understanding of their place in the world. Including illustrated maps drawn at different scales, children can learn about map features and how to read maps. Learn About Animals is our subset dedicated to animals. With four titles that celebrate groups of spring animals such as swarms, kaleidoscopes, fluffles, and packs, our readers will learn about bees, butterflies, rabbits, and dogs, the stars of this vibrant set. Each book covers both the behavior these animals have as a group, as well as their habitats and life cycles. Stay tuned: there is much more to come in the Learn About series!

Our second long-standing series for early childhood is Wild World. Kids cannot get enough animal facts! With this series, readers can learn super cool facts about their favorite animals in a very original way: by comparing and contrasting them. Brimming with colorful photographs and fascinating facts about the featured animals´ body, life cycle, and habitat, and with short blocks of text on every page, this series is sure to entertain the most reluctant readers. The first set in the series, Hot and Cold Animals, compares animals that have the same name…but are very different! A Galápagos Penguin is not the same as an Emperor Penguin, right? In the set Fast and Slow, animals are compared according to speed. Starting with the slowest animal in each group—amphibians, birds, fish, mammals, and reptiles—readers will want to read to the end as the ten animals listed in each book get faster and faster. The set Big and Small compares animals according to their size. Which is the smallest mammal on Earth? It is the bumblebee bat. Which is the biggest mammal on Earth? Yes, the blue whale!

We know it is important for kids to access engaging and fun rich content to turn them into life-long readers…and learners! And we know Learn About and Wild World will be a great tool to help achieve this!  We hope you love these books as much as we do!
