Despite dangers, school and public librarians continue to push back against efforts to censor books.
School librarians are taking center stage in the fight against censorship.
CNN recently aired a story that interviewed school and public librarians, including the founders of #FReadom, a grassroots group that highlighs the work of school librarians, provides resources for book challenges, and organizes Twitter campaigns to raise awareness and fight back against book challenges.
In a sign of the times, one Texas school librarian felt the need to hide her identity and be interviewed without providing her name, showing only a silhouette.
When asked why she didn't want to be identified, she said, "Because there was a day not too long ago when I had to stop and think, when they come in with handcuffs and they come in with a warrant for my arrest alleging I have provided obscene material to minors, who am I going to call first?"
