Can you guess the classic children’s book by its scathing one-star review on Goodreads or Amazon?

Very few books failed to engage me, but I loathed this one with a purple passion. The main character, a young boy who writes letters to an author without success (?), has such an aggravating, whiny personality that I don’t think I ever made it more than two-thirds of the way through his letters, though, believe me, I tried.
