I can think of no better way for a fan of literacy to celebrate July 4th than by supporting the creation of an independent bookstore.

You can make it happen, people.

Kathy Burnette (aka @thebrainlair on Twitter) is raising funds to start The Brain Lair Bookstore in the community of South Bend/Mishawaka, Indiana. The focus of the store? Diverse books for children and teens.

So take whatever money you were planning to drop on hot dogs today and support a worthy cause. Visit the Kickstarter, learn more about the project, and make a pledge. Okay, eat a hot dog too.

Celebrate independence for readers.
