OverDrive Now Offering More Than 17,000 Penguin Titles to Libraries

OverDrive has announced that more than 17,000 Penguin titles, both new and backlist, will now be available to OverDrive's U.S. library partners—public, college, and consortium—via the one copy/one user lending model. However, Kindle users will only be able to access Penguin books via “side-loading," rather than wireless loading.

Penguin titles, both new and backlist, are once again available from OverDrive.

3M Cloud Library has offered access to Penguin ebook titles to all library customers since late Fall 2012.

Here’s a portion of what OverDrive Library Partners received in a email this AM. The number of titles available is actually 17,000.

Special note to the sentence near the bottom of the letter about Penguin titles only being available to Kindle users via “side-loading”. In other words, library users who are used to wireless loading of ebooks to their Kindle devices will be required to complete the side-loading process to read Penguin titles.

From the OverDrive Blog Post:

Penguin’s eBooks are available for public and college libraries, including consortium, in the U.S. in the one copy/one user lending model for a one year term.  Availability of the Penguin eBooks to libraries outside the U.S. is coming soon.

Popular new releases such as Clive Cussler’s “Mirage” and Patricia Cornell’s latest Kay Scarpetta novel “Dust” will be priced at $18.99. Backlist favorites will range from $5.99 -$9.99.
