Two editors are moving up at School Library Journal (SLJ ).
Sarah Bayliss has been promoted to senior editor, features, and Kara Yorio has been promoted to senior editor, news.
Bayliss joined SLJ in 2013 as associate editor, news and features. Promoted to editor in 2018, she has been the point person for the print feature well. Bayliss oversaw award-winning stories, including “The Smell Test” (2017) by Linda Jacobson and devised SLJ’s “Newbery at 100” coverage in January 2022.
Bayliss launched Cicely Lewis’s “Read Woke” column and has helped organize and moderate numerous events, including the SLJ Summit.
Yorio joined SLJ in January 2018 as news editor. She has led SLJ’s news coverage, from the impact of COVID and censorship to the Youth Media Awards. In 2021, she directed SLJ’s state of school libraries report. With a degree in print journalism from Boston University, Yorio has served as a reporter and editor covering a range of topics for various publications before coming to SLJ including The Record newspaper, USA Today, the NY Daily News, and The Sporting News.
