In a previous post I wrote about the Manga Classics Readers from One Peace Books, titles adapted in Japan and brought over here. Well, another publisher, Udon Entertainment, in association with Morpheus Publishing Limited, has created a new line called Manga Classics. The line will adapt literary classics so faithfully that they “will please even the toughest teacher or librarian.” Like most manga, these titles will read right to left and are in black and white.

The series will start with two titles, Victor Hugo’s Les Misérables and Jane Austin’s Pride and Prejudice. The books won’t be released until August, but attendees of the ALA Annual Conference in Las Vegas in June and Comic Con International in San Diego in July will be able  to pick up special preview releases. A preview comic was also released for Free Comic Book Day that featured a preview of Les Misérables titled “The Fall of Fantine” and a shorter preview of Pride and Prejudice.

The line is aimed at young adult readers, but anyone interested in starting or renewing their reading of classic literature can read them. The beautiful art and accurate adaptations will make them attractive to both reluctant readers and readers on the go. The titles will be available in both softcover and hardback editions. They are available for pre-order from comic book shops, Amazon.com, and Barnes and Noble.
