In a 2004 interview with SLJ, Ursula K. Le Guin discusses her family, influences and evolution as a writer.
As fans and fellow authors continue to mourn the loss of Ursula K. Le Guin, revisit her 2004 interview with School Library Journal after Le Guin won the Margaret A. Edwards Award for lifetime contributions to young people’s literature. The legendary writer talks about growing up, the moving letters she received from readers and her process and evolution as a writer. "I think the one big shift may have been in the ’70s and ’80s, when the second wave of feminism came along," she says. "I learned how to both read and write as a woman rather than as a sort of genderless receiver of almost entirely male literature."
