Gumby #1Gumby is returning to comics in a new series from Papercutz, filling that Gumby-shaped hole that opened up in everybody’s lives with the demise of the last Gumby comic, in 2008 or so. Papercutz will publish new comics based on the Gumby animated shorts, and there’s more Gumby in the pipeline as well: Primavision, which owns the rights to Gumby, has announced a partnership with the Jim Henson company to produce a new TV series, and there’s word of a feature film as well. The comic will debut in July, just in time for San Diego Comic Con, and will be a monthly series with two 10-page main stories and a five-page backup story in each 32-page issue, with a price point of $3.99.

Papercutz has also added two new titles to its Charmz line of tween romances: GFFs: Ghost Friends Forever, by Monica Gallagher and Kata Kane, and The Scarlet Rose, a French import, by Patricia Lyfoung. Mariah McCourt, the writer of the Charmz book Stitched, is taking over as editor of the line.

Big news for the Lumberjanes: Abrams will publish a series of Lumberjanes middle-grade novels under its Amulet imprint. Mariko Tamaki is writing them, and Brooke Allen, a member of the original Lumberjanes creative team, will edit.

Sean Kleefeld posts a Black History Month comics bibliography; it’s a good list that includes comics for a wide range of readers, not just kids and teens.
