I arrived from ALA a bit too late to catch the excitement at the ISTE Librarians Playground yesterday, so I asked current and incoming ISTELib Network presidents Sherry Gick and Jonathan Werner to help describe the vibrant scene I caught at the tail end.

As it has been for the last several years, one of the highlights of ISTE for the Librarians Network was our annual Playground on Monday, June 27th.  Hundreds of attendees came to talk with more than 25 presenters including:

  • Diana Rendina, ISTE’s Outstanding Young Educator for 2016
  • Sara Trettin and Mark Ray from the Future Ready Librarians initiativeScreen Shot 2016-06-28 at 10.51.26 AM
  • Shannon Miller, ISTE Librarians Network Keynote Speaker for 2015

Presenters covered everything from Bloxels Video Game Design to Library Data Collection, from Raspberry Pi to Going Global in Your Library.  And it was clear that this year’s #cantshushthis campaign for the Librarians Network was already in full swing.  Not a bunhead or Zombie Librarian to be seen!  Only a diverse representation of the dynamic teacher librarians and their supporters who make up the Librarians Network, each of them excited about the myriad ways we can make ourselves indispensable to our schools, our students and our teachers.

But don’t just rely on what WE saw and heard!  You can get first hand accounts from dozens of attendees via this Storify of the ISTE Librarians Network Playground.  People’s excitement is palpable in their diverse reflections and observations.

Whether or not you were able to join us, we hope you’ll take a look at the online materials provided by these our presenters.  Just click on the title of each presentation to learn more.  And we look forward to your joining us in San Antonio for ISTE 2017 and what will surely be another incredible Playground.
