The Picks:

Birth of Kitaro 1 Birth Of Kitaro GN – Drawn and Quarterly brings back the boy yokai who’s the last of the ghost tribe, Kitaro. Starting with the birth of Kitaro and transformation of his father Medama-oyaji, this volume collects seven of Kitaro’s early stories. Nezumi Otoko, Kitaro’s frenemy, returns along with other yokai friends and foes such as Neko Musume, Gyuki, and Makura Gaeshi. Also included are fact files about yokai and matching games and mazes. This is a great introduction to a beloved character and the fantastic creatures of Japanese lore.

Yotsuba 13Yotsuba & ! Volume 13 GN – The girl with the green, clover-tailed hair has returned to Yen Press. Yotsuba plays in a sandbox where she instructs Fuuka how to properly run a bakery. Then, Grandma visits, and Yotsuba learns how to value and enjoy cleaning, not be rude when hoping for souvenirs, and most important, how to cope when Grandma leaves. It’s been almost three years since there was a new volume of Yotsuba&!, and she has been sorely missed. Fans of all ages rejoice!
