Jeff Kinney’s Diary of a Wimpy Kid is kind of a comic—we put it in the “hybrid” category, because it includes blocks of prose, but it’s not really a picture book. It’s also insanely popular, and books like this give the whole graphic novel category a boost.
So it’s big news to us here at GC4K that Abrams has announced the title and revealed the cover of the new Wimpy Kid book, the 11th in the series. Ta-dah!
Publishers Weekly reported on the cover reveal, which Kinney did in a livestreamed video from his store, An Unlikely Story, in Plainville, Massachusetts.
“Greg Heffley has always believed there was something that set him apart from everyone else. In the new book, Greg discovers what makes him unique, and it’s not at all what he expected,” Kinney said in a statement. “After the 10th book, I found myself at a crossroads in my career. I wasn’t sure if I should continue writing Diary of a Wimpy Kid books or go down a different path. Double Down is really special to me, because it reflects a renewed commitment to the series and a plan for the future.”
(I interviewed Kinney at the store last year.)
