The National Park Service, U.S Presidential Libraries and Museums, the Internet2 community, and other cultural and historical organizations recently announced the lineup for the annual Presidential Primary Source Project (PPSP). This is a perfect opportunity for librarians to connect teachers and students to memorable experiences that will make history and presidential politics come alive.

The 2017 series of free, standards-aligned 45-minute programs for middle and high school students runs from January through March. Each live-streamed event will be archived for future viewing. For a flavor of the PPSP experience, check out the complete archive of previous sessions and view, for example, “Ulysses S Grant: A President Committed to Civil Rights,” led by enthusiastic ranger/educator David.

This year’s theme is “Culture, Society, and Presidential Decision-Making.” Using primary source documents and interactive videoconferencing, the 2017 program series will take students on a journey through our nation’s history and allow them to view a president’s key decisions through the social and political lens of that era.
