I will always have a special connection to Molly Idle’s work. I was a member of the committee that awarded Idle’s Flora and the Flamingo a Caldecott Honor.
Today I’m (segue alert) honored to reveal, for the very first time, the cover for the latest Flora book, Flora and the Peacocks.
First, a word from Molly Idle:
First, came Flora and the Flamingo.
Book two was Flora and the Penguin.
Flora and the Peacocks, is all about threes.
It is the third Flora book.
It’s drawn using a limited palette of three colors.
And it features a group of three friends.
The addition of a third character and third color provided a wonderful challenge in creating, not only the cover, but the entire story. I had to find a way to make room to include everyone, and find a sense of balance too. Flora, and her fine feathered friends, face those same challenges within the book.
Thank you Molly Idle and Lara Starr for making this post happen.
