We’ve got an exciting scoop for you this morning: BOOM! Studios is going to publish a new alphabet book, An Apple and an Adventure, by animator Martin Cendreda. He may not be a household name, but if you are an animation fan, you’ve probably seen his work: He has been a color stylist for Fairly Odd Parents, done background designs for Steven Universe and other Cartoon Network shows, and directed and storyboarded several episodes of Bojack Horseman. He has also made some very nice short comics, which you can see on his website (not all are suitable for children). The book is intended for preschoolers and up, but his art has appeal for older readers as well. Cendreda’s work has been included in several anthologies, including Kramer’s Ergot 7 and Best American Comics 2008.
An Apple and an Adventure is not a comic but a picture book, which is a relatively new direction for BOOM! Studios: Their first picture book was What Is It? by Dustin Nguyen and Nicole Hoang, a reworking of a book that Hoang wrote as a child and that Nguyen illustrated as a gift for their wedding. An Apple and an Adventure will be published under the Archaia imprint.
The book is being solicited in the February issue of Previews, the catalog for comic shops, and it’s also available for pre-order on Amazon and Barnes and Noble.
