This coming Saturday, May 14, is Scratch Day. What's that, you ask? It's a global network of events that celebrates, well, Scratch (the coding learning language) and, of course, the young people who code and create with it. DK Publishing has teamed up with the Scratch Foundation at MIT to put together a Computer Coding Kit. It's full of tools to help libraries host a computer coding event for kids, on the official day, or any day. The kit includes an informational poster, stickers, activity cards, and a glossary of coding terms. The kit works in conjunction with DK's collection of computer coding books, the latest of which is Coding Games in Scratch. SLJ reviewer Amy M. Laughlin called it "a great resource that pushes Scratch to the limits of its use and entertainment." The next book in the series is Coding Projects in Scratch (July).
