Rather than straight biography, Morales presents an exploration of Frida Kahlo’s artistic process. Simple statements in English and Spanish (“I see…Veo…”) are set against stunningly detailed mixed-media illustrations. Photographs of intricately handcrafted puppets (Frida, Diego, and several woodland creatures) give way to flowing scenes rendered in acrylics as Frida and readers embark on a dream sequence. An elegant introduction to Kahlo’s unique vision and a joyful embrace of the artistic spark.
