This was the poster that was being given away at the Disney booth.

Word had already gotten out that Disney has a Space Mountain graphic novel in the works, but they filled in a lot more details at New York Comic Con last weekend. The book is due out in May 2014, and the Disney folks were handing out the poster above to promote it. Here’s the blurb :

The year is 2125 and the Magellan Science Academy has given two lucky cadets “thulium tickets” to join a team of space explorers on a special field trip to journey 24 hours into the future. But when their mission goes unexpectedly wrong, the two kids must band together with a miniature flying saucer sidekick to save themselves and their crew–and return to Space Mountain–before time runs out and the universe is destroyed!

The book will be written by Bryan Q. Miller, who was a writer for the television show Smallville as well as Teen Titans and Batgirl for DC; he has also written several Spider-Man stories for Marvel Press. The artist, Kelley Jones is known for his work on DC Comics’ Batman, which helped inspire Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, as well as his art for Neil Gaiman’s Sandman for Vertigo Comics; he has worked for every major comic book publisher.

Titans NYCC: Disney Announces Space Mountain Graphic Novel

Space Mountain was the big news, but the Disney booth was filled with a variety of content, including the new Rick Riordan novel, The House of Hades, and the new graphic novel The Titans’ Curse, which was adapted by Robert Venditti and illustrated by Attila Futaki.

And artist Orpheus Collar was there, signing copies of The Red Pyramid, another Riordan adaptation that he illustrated. Collar has been a colorist on Amazing Spider-Man and Ultimate X-Men, and he did the storyboards for the graphic novel adaptation of The Lightning Thief. (Photo provided by Disney.)
