The American Library Association’s copyright expert, bestselling author Carrie Russell, will field questions from school librarians, teachers, principals, and superintendents during a free tweetchat on Tuesday, January 7, 2014, from 6:00–7:00p.m. EST. Participants can submit questions using the #k12copylaw. During the event, Russell plans to offer best practices on how educators can lawfully provide copyrighted materials to students, including issues of fair use, copyright law in the digital age, and copyright exploitation in schools. Russell will also discuss examples often encountered by educators in schools, such as using copyrighted material in lesson plans, school plays, classroom assignments, and bulletin board displays. The event is being jointly hosted by ALA, The School Superintendents Association (AASA), the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP), and the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).
