Gr 4-7–In this quirky fantasy about magicians in training, witchling Seven Salazar, cued Latinx, is excited to gain her full powers after her coming-of-age ceremony. But when she’s designated a Spare with fewer powers than a full-fledged witch, she must work with classmates to complete an impossible task or risk being turned into a toad. Hand to suspense fans, too.

Whimsy and drama in the magic academy.
