On May 10th through 12th, while attending the Toronto Comic Arts Festival, I ran around to as many of my favorite kids comics creators as I could and asked them all the exact same questions. Keep in mind, exhibit halls are crazy loud and crazy busy (even when they’re held in a library), so there is a lot of background noise. Hope Larson is my hero. She managed to take a book that many, many readers have a deep and lasting relationship with and transform it into a graphic novel that works simultaneously as an adaptation, as an homage to a classic children’s novel, and as an independent work of art. This is nothing short of magic. A Wrinkle in Time: The Graphic Novel won an Eisner Award and several state awards, all well-deserved. If you haven’t already, I urge you to take a look.
