We Need Diverse Books (WNDB) is searching for an unpublished author of middle grade fiction. The nonprofit WNDB has partnered with Random House and will publish an anthology of middle grade short stories, to be released in January 2017, with the working title Stories For All Of Us. Ellen Oh, president of WNDB, will edit the anthology, which will include stories by an impressive roster of contributing diverse authors including Kwame Alexander, Sherman Alexie, Soman Chainani, Matt de la Peña, Tim Federle, Grace Lin, Meg Medina, Walter Dean Myers, Rachel Renee Russell, and Jacqueline Woodson. The anthology will be dedicated to the memory of Walter Dean Myers, and it is inspired by his quote: “Once I began to read, I began to exist.” Along with stories from established writers, one work from an unpublished author of fiction will be included in Stories For All Of Us and selected through a WNDB short story contest. The winner will not only be published in the anthology but will also receive $1,000. Submissions will be accepted after 9 am ET on April 27, 2015 until 5 pm ET on May 8, 2015.
