On Wednesday, May 30, the 7th Annual
School Library Journal Author & Illustrator Dinner held during BEA was hosted at the Princeton Club in NYC. Featured at the event to speak about their new books were Dhonielle Clayton, author of
The Belles (Disney/Freeform); Matthew Cordell, author and illustrator of
King Alice (Feiwel & Friends/Macmillan);Terry Fan and Eric Fan, authors and illustrators of
Ocean Meets Sky (Simon & Schuster). Alex Gino, author of
You Don’t Know Everything, Jilly P. (Scholastic); Tahereh Mafi, author of
A Very Large Expanse of Sea (HarperCollins); and Nic Stone, author of
Odd One Out (Crown/Penguin Random House Children’s Books). The evening capped off a busy day for many librarians who attended
SLJ's
Day of Dialog and other Book Expo events. The authors and illustrators gave poignant, funny, and often personal speeches that reflected on their process and passions—the audience was, at turns, laughing and wiping away tears.
