I’ve long been a big fan of reading and studying movies. I’ve been a fan of this site’s rich curricular materials for many years.

I just discovered that I do not need to re-subscribe.

The site is now available for free (though it will now host unobtrusive advertising and encourage voluntary donations).

The Who Are We page explains the TWM’s development: Beginning with just a handful of Learning Guides in 1998, TeachWithMovies.org has grown to encompass more than 390 Learning Guides and lesson plans, as well as articles on using movies to further education. Through word of mouth, the search engines, and a little press coverage (including the LA Times and USA Today), usage on the site has ballooned.  Learning guides include a description, rationale for using the film, student learning objectives, potential problems for using the film, discussion questions, and assignment and assessment ideas, social-emotional learning discussion questions, bridges to reading, web links, selected awards, cast and director information, and bibliographies. In addition, the site also offers a variety of more generic tools, such as a film study worksheets and assignments for use with any film that is a work of fiction. A section of worksheets offers guidance in working with: General Fiction Adaptations Historical Fiction Science Fiction Cinematic and Theatrical Elements Hero’s Journey Documentaries as well as materials for working with television genre: Competition Reality Show Work of Fiction Historical Fiction Informational Documentary Documentary That Seek to Persuade on that Seek to Persuade on Issues of Political or Social Significance News Program

TeachWithMovies may be browsed/searched alphabetically, or by age, subject, a variety of 10 best lists.

You’ll want to share the big TWM news with any teachers who include media analysis in their programs, use film in the classroom, or assign film as an element of flipped learning experiences.
