Do you have a children’s story itching to be told, but you're not sure how to begin? You might consider the Picture Book Summit. A live, online workshop on October 3, the Summit is designed to help would-be picture book writers and illustrators started on the path to drafting—and hopefully finding a publisher for—their own work. PBS-Logo_authorCOMBOPicture book authors Julie Hedlund, Caldecott Honoree Mac Barnett, Coretta Scott King award winner Andrea Davis Pinkney and Caldecott Honoree Peter Brown will join picture book editors, agents, and other experts to explain what it takes to develop a story, sharpen their writing, and even build a platform to find readers. Attendees will walk away with marketing advice; tips on what’s selling from agents and editors; plus worksheets and checklists to help nascent fiction and nonfiction children’s book authors and illustrators get started. The cost is $197 for those who register before August 15; the price after that date is $297. Five percent of the net ticket sales for the event will benefit literacy advocate group We Need Diverse Books. THus far, Picture Book Summit have more than 400 people registered to date, raising $3,854.27 in donations so far. For those who can’t attend live, recordings will be available.
