Gr 7 Up—Kate Dudding tells five stories about young people (varying in age from 11 to older teenagers) who have made a difference. One of the more touching stories involves a girls' softball team and the actions of one player who did the right thing in helping an opposing teammate in need. In another story, 12 African-American teens from Tennessee had to cope with being the first integrated public school students in the south. Another story recounts how a group of storytellers from Albany, NY, are changing the world one story at a time. The final tale relates how four college freshmen staged a sit-in during the civil rights movement. Dudding relates the disheartening as well as the inspiring aspects of these stories. Her narration is expressive, and she often addresses listeners directly. While the recording quality is sometimes a bit tinny, the uplifting quality of the stories fills a niche.—
