Told through simple, pun-filled text, each page of this book is a spread comprised of a full bleed photo of a dog on one side, often in an Easter themed costume, with an illustrated vignette on the opposing side. Each vignette depicts a dog and a child; diversity in the children represented is notable, with a range of skin tones and physical ability levels present. The full color images of dogs are sure to captivate the youngest readers, while the amusing “punny” text may be a draw for the early elementary crowd. The book has the feeling of a greeting card, complete with a “To/From” plate at the end.
VERDICT A secondary purchase where Easter titles are in demand.
