K-Gr 3–Anderson provides an informative tool to teach social emotional learning. Each page uses a letter of the alphabet to explain a different element of developing a growth mindset. The text is accessible for younger grades, and the content and tone are serious enough to share with upper-elementary students. This title could be used as a read-aloud or teachers could utilize individual pages for a focused lesson. Souva’s textured and colorful illustrations are a standout and would make a great poster set. The engaging images reflect and expand upon the positive messages throughout. The cast of characters represents a balance of people of color and gender, but there is a lack of ability diversity. A glossary and an extensive list of activities are included.
VERDICT A positive picture book to support lessons in social emotional learning and growth mindset. Recommended.
