Gr 1–3—An interactive animal atlas that progresses through seven major biomes. The interactive elements are mostly lift the lap and generally designed to include the flap as part of the content delivery. There are also a couple of turn wheels, cutaways, and booklets and one large, nicely engineered pop-up for the mountain biome. The majority of the illustrations are colorful, with a few exceptions in the booklets, where the illustrations are merely monochromatic sketches. There is a spread for each biome, loaded with well-known animals. However, neither continent nor countries of origin are noted in the short informational blurbs. The conversational tone makes this a good selection for read-alouds.
VERDICT A charming book, but light on the facts. Purchase for younger children as an additional general animal title.
