Whole Whale

PreS-K–Yin debuts with a colorful reminder about inclusion. Animals have arrived at the empty book, ready to play. The author suggests 100 animals could fit in the book, but could an entire blue whale? More and more animals gather and the question remains. Finally, the blue whale arrives and the animals make room. This simple rhyming book packs a powerful message: “When everybody makes some space, one more can always find a place.” Verhoeff’s vibrant drawings are perfectly paired with Yin’s words. Animals are depicted with smiles on their faces as all of the different species gather together, looks of determination as they make room for the whale, and joyful when they can all share the space. Children will enjoy identifying the animals and seeing how they interact with one another. Back matter includes the names of the 100 animals and a challenge to find each one.
