K-Gr 2—An imaginative story about what happens to lost/abandoned items such as a flyaway balloon, a tooth left under a pillow, a teacher at the end of the school year, and more. The text is comprised solely of questions about where these items (or individuals) go; a wordless foldout illustration suggests a possible answer. The balloon ends up in the hands of an alien in outer space, a chicken shows off her new pearly teeth, a cockroach balances on a "sparkly bead" as part of a circus act. There is some humor in the retro-looking art such as when a boy's shadow chases a burglar at night. The palette generally is on the pale side, although there are touches of bright reds and yellow among the mostly gray, white, and dusty hues. Children should enjoy exploring the artist's fantastic scenarios and adding their own thoughts and ideas. This is not an essential purchase, but it might spark discussion and exploration.—Maralita L. Freeny, District of Columbia Public Library
