Gr 6–8—Pedestrian best describes this set that surveys the conditions and hostilities that lead to the outbreak of war. Each title only very briefly summarizes the conflicts and analyzes their impact. Authors objectively discuss the merits of the combatants' stances but speculate whether the
Vietnam and Afghanistan wars could have been avoided. The set's concept is a good one, but execution is flawed. Background is limited and occasionally oversimplified.
World War II is almost exclusively focused on events in Europe. There are some content errors:
Civil War misstates the number of military deaths, and Vietnam misdates the Battle of Dien Bien Phu. Not all volumes include maps, and the photos are often uninspired.
