Watch Me Grow: ­Sunflowers

K-Gr 3–An informational book full of color and wonder educates readers on the splendor of the sunflower. End papers depicting a variety of sunflowers alongside their ­common names allow a preview of the beauty found in this book. A warm ­summer day is evoked on the first page, with text in a singsong lilt to set the scene. Every page turn presents more information about ­sunflowers, ­including, the wide range of color varieties, parts of the sunflower, and its growth from seed to flower. A glossary and illustration of the life cycle of the sunflower are presented at the end of the book. Where the inclusion of the life cycle ­illustration is well-handled, ­readers may need help determining the movement from one stage to another, as well as the starting and ending points. Bright colors of blues, greens, yellows, and browns permeate this book, which appears to be done in colored ­pencil. ­
