K-Gr 3—Originally published in Good Housekeeping in the 1930s and early '40s, this collection of more than 50 retellings of vintage Disney animated shorts features Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, Pluto, and the "Silly Symphony" series. Stories range from Mickey leading a band to Goofy learning self-defense to Disney-fied versions of classics such as "Little Red Riding Hood." Each short tale takes up one page with the occasional spread. Numerous spot illustrations show the action, accompanied by playful rhyming text. The book is broken into sections by character, making it easy for readers to find a favorite. A large trim size, thick paper, and vivid color reproduction make this a book that will draw attention. While often these sorts of vintage reissues fail to appeal to today's reader, the draw of Disney is not to be underestimated. Chances are good that this one will get a warm reception.—Travis Jonker, Wayland Union Schools, MI
