Unicorn Rescuers: Adventure in Mermaid Land

Gr 1-3–A new series from Punset and a follow-up to the popular “Unicornia” series. This book follows Claudia and her friends from the Unicornia Academy of Magic as they become unicorn rescuers. Their first job isn’t exactly above board as they step in to rescue a unicorn while their grownups are out on another mission. They must go to an island in Mermaid Land where a unicorn has gone missing. Along the way, they make friends with all kinds of courageous magical creatures to aid them on their journey. But can they convince the mermaids to aid them, or will the mermaids do everything they can to stop the Unicorn Rescuers from locating the lost unicorn? This chapter book is extremely colorful and cute with not only illustrations on most pages, but bright rainbow stars and clouds in the background of all pages. Vicedo’s digital illustrations, done in a pastel rainbow palette, help drive the action and emphasize plot points. The illustrations in the front matter help the reader become familiar with the characters and their unicorns. Most characters have light skin, but the mermaids in the book include characters that have varying shades of brown skin.
