Gr 7 Up—Designed in typical DK fashion, with numerous color photographs, this accessible pictorial overview of the world of spying will readily attract browsers. The broad chapter headings are subdivided into two- and four-page subtopics. Each chapter kicks off with an introductory spread, featuring white text on a black background. Captions are generally informative. Not much has changed in this volume compared with the previous edition. One subtopic has been deleted, while two new ones have been added, and about a half-dozen photos and biographic sidebars in the third edition have been replaced with newer ones (including one of Edward Snowden).
VERDICT An excellent introduction to the darker side of international relations. However, those who own the third edition need not purchase the fourth.
