Her best friend Iseult is a Threadwitch and can see the emotional ties that run through everyone around her. Thrown together with ship captain Prince Merrick, who is a Windwitch, the girls fight to elude capture and bring peace to their lands. Cassandra Campbell reads in a pleasant and clear voice. All voices are done in various Italian accents. Campbell easily adapts as the audiobook changes among the viewpoints of hotheaded Safiya, quiet Iseult, determined Prince Merrick, and dark mercenary Aeduan.
VERDICT The first in a projected four-book series, this will certainly appeal to high fantasy readers. Give this to fans of Sarah J. Maas, Leigh Bardugo, and "The Kiss of Deception" series by Mary E. Pearson, as well as to listeners who like strong female characters in fast-paced, action-packed story lines.
