Gr 3–6—Mythology comes to life through these stories of Norse gods, goddesses, and monsters. Some of the tales are about relatively well-known figures such as Odin, Thor, and Loki, yet many other more obscure gods and heroes are explored as well. Author's notes provide listeners with more insight into the vocabulary and history. Although the stories are fascinating and will keep listeners enthralled, there is no PDF of the images that would have been found in the printed pages. Napoli dedicates the last portion of the book to explaining story choices and summaries of the main characters; this addition makes this audiobook a well-rounded introduction to this section of world mythology.
VERDICT A strong addition to an elementary, middle school, or public library collection. ["Buy it, and if space is an issue, weed to make it fit": SLJ 10/15 starred review of the National Geographic book.]
