PreS-Gr 1—Puppy pals, clad from the waist up for winter, are cast in this appealing friendship tale. Initially, Tig refuses to share the stick she's found in the snow, but something mysterious poking from the ground cannot be retrieved with scrapes. Tog shares the spoon in his pocket, and some progress is made. The digging tools alternately discovered by the pals increase in size up to Tog's amazing operation of a full-size excavator that unearths a stegosaurus skeleton. "From that day on, the two friends always shared everything." Garland's amiable cartoon paintings against white backgrounds show the diligent efforts of cooperative friends.
VERDICT While the big discovery is not much of a surprise, the humor and sweet characters will especially please preschoolers.
