K-Gr 3—In the next installment in the wordless, seek-and-find "Mamoko" series (Big Picture), readers are sent to the medieval times of dragons, jesters, knights, and ladies. Each of the quirky characters are introduced in the front end pages with a question to lead kids' hunts into the volume's pages: "Tom Dott has a bark that's worse than his bite. Who finds this out?" The story of Mamoko is unfolded as children follow the various characters on their journeys to the castle. Readers first glimpse the characters on a country road with cross cut houses, barns, and open windows. Through those glimpses, they can establish the character's identity: traveler, thief, singer, or baker. The Mizielinskis's dense pictures come together to create a bustling world of plots and sideplots that will engage children for hours.
VERDICT This is a great additional purchase for wordless collections.
