Gr 7 Up—One of the major health issues for young people today is childhood obesity. In an effort to address this issue, the government has instituted MyPlate, a program designed to teach children and youth about healthy eating habits. This video gives teens information about unhealthy food choices they tend to make and healthier alternatives. Two attractive hosts provide this information in a positive way, with teens talking about one of the mistakes they make at the beginning of each section. The five mistakes addressed are: not eating enough fruits and vegetables; not having enough whole grains and lean protein in their diet; consuming too much sodium; eating too much sugar; and consuming too much saturated and any trans fats. As each of these areas is discussed, teens are encouraged to eat more whole and less processed foods and to learn to read food labels. The guide includes a summary of the program, learning objectives, performance indicators of the National Health Education Standards, student activities including a class debate, fact sheets, and a pre/post test. A well done introduction to a health unit on nutrition.—Ann Brownson, Eastern Illinois University, Charleston
