Gr 5–7—In this sequel to The Templeton Twins Have an Idea (Chronicle, 2012), Abigail and John are knee deep in adventures surrounding the theft of their dog, Cassie, and the return of the Dean brothers. This time the siblings' inventor/professor father has been hired by the Thespian Academy of Performing Arts and Sciences (TAPAS) to create a new lighting device. Once again, the Deans are out to sabotage him and steal Cassie, dubbed "the ridiculous dog," as a diversion. However, the protagonists use their quick wit and brains to save the day, the dog, and the lighting device. The plot is conveyed and commented upon by the narrator in a snarky, sarcastic, and humorous manner. Throughout the story, a few new zany characters are introduced as well as some of the favorites readers will remember from the earlier book. Make a Scene is as irresistible and hilarious as its predecessor. Holmes's artwork throughout is both unique and intricate, adding to the story and its characters. The text, format, and multiple-choice questions at the end of each chapter have all been cleverly chosen to add to the mood and pacing of the plot. This humorous story is sure to entertain reluctant and avid readers alilke.—Megan McGinnis, Sachem Public Library, Holbrook, NY
