PreS-Gr 1-A little girl loves to draw everything she sees, all the time, everywhere, and has an extraordinary way of seeing the world through her drawings. However, she is also shy and does not like to share her drawings with anyone. On a particularly blustery day, a gust of wind sends her sketches tumbling away and into the hands of townspeople who offer words of appreciation for her work. After receiving many accolades and praise, she finds her voice, and makes some new friends. There are a number of contrivances that render the overall message of the story somewhat unclear. After receiving praise from the townspeople, suddenly she has an inexplicable newfound confidence and "for the first time in Lily's life words come spilling out of her."
VERDICT While the story line is a bit muddled, the warm and cheery full-bleed and spot illustrations may invite readers to look a little closer at Lily's world as she does. An additional purchase.-Jessica Marie, Salem Public Library, OR
