Gr 2–5—This title attempts to introduce Taoist ideals—such as simplicity, acceptance, humility, and harmony with nature—in these 33 anecdotes. In a pithy paragraph or two, McGinnis relates a conversation between a sage and someone who poses a question. The lessons he imparts are drawn from the observation and appreciation of nature. The nicely composed acrylic paintings are evocative of Asian brush paintings, and the selective use of color directs readers focus effectively.
VERDICT This Taoist influenced book might be a hard sell, but the teachings are worth thinking about and discussing.
