PreS-Gr 1—Lexi-Lou enjoys many things—being a superhero, a master chef, and a secret agent. But most of all, she loves being a rock star and singing. As she grooves, hops, and rocks around her house and school, she's always being told to do other things, such as eat breakfast and brush her teeth. "'Hey, Punkydoo,' said her brother, Daniel. 'When's the concert?" What a great idea! Lexi-Lou and her dog Monkey explore the neighborhood to find members for a band. Henry plays the piano, Gigi plays electric guitar, and the kids search high and low to find Boo on drums. After practicing and preparing costumes, posters, and decorations, it's time for Lexi-Lou's dream to come true: to introduce her new band, "The Punkydoos!" Lyrics on the last page allow readers to "sing along if you're a Punkydoo, too!" Colorful illustrations and rhythmic phrases ("Bam Da-Bam Bam Da-Crash Boom!") round out this musical story.—Sarah Polace, Cuyahoga Public Library System, OH
Young Lexi-Lou never stops rocking out, inspiring her older brother to suggest that she start a band. She recruits bandmates one by one, and they make costumes and posters and finally come up with a name. It's the rare toddler who will find this conflict-free fluff relatable. The cute rockers have, like many Andreasen characters, rash-pink cheeks. A tie-in CD is included.
